Some of the New Zealand’s best trout fishing is within close proximity of The Fishing Lodge, for both rainbow and brown trout. The Turangi / Tongariro River area is known as the trout fishing capital of the world.
Winter fishing
The best fishing in the rivers is between May and September, although other months of the year can also be very productive.
Summer fishing
Many of the smaller streams and headwaters of tributaries are open from 1 December to 31 May. It is also an ideal time for boat fishing on Lake Taupo and other smaller lakes in the area well known for yielding trophy fish.
