Some of the New Zealand’s best trout fishing is within close proximity of The Fishing Lodge. Experience self contained, private accommodation in our 3 bedroom luxury holiday house on the banks of the Tongariro River at Turangi.

Summer fishing
Many of the smaller streams and headwaters of tributaries are open from 1 December to 31 May. It is also an ideal time for boat fishing on Lake Taupo and other smaller lakes in the area well known for yielding trophy fish.

Winter fishing
From May to November, the tributaries to Lake Taupo traditionally came alive with large numbers of mainly Rainbow but also Brown Trout migrating up the rivers. In the last three to four years the main spawning runs have been later, between September and late November. However current indications are that the early fishing runs are returning to the Tongariro and other rivers in the area.

Guided fly fishing tours
The Fishing Lodge can refer you to experienced river fishing guides on either the Tongariro River or (particularly in the summer months) the headwaters of the rivers and streams within the area.
